Here’s How Brickell City Centre Will Add Pedestrian Connectivity To The Miami River
Swire Properties is planning major upgrades to the public spaces under and around the South Miami Avenue bridge as part of a massive expansion of Brickell City Centre.
Land under and around the South Miami Avenue bridge now used as surface parking lots for maintenance workers will be opened up to create a new public open space, according to a letter of intent submitted as part of an application to Miami’s Urban Development Review Board. The developer has already reached an agreement with Miami-Dade County to rebuild the properties.
Enhancements will include landscaping, lighting, and benches. The project will be coordinated with the Miami River Walk project, opening pedestrian connections to the river from Brickell City Centre and South Miami Avenue that don’t currently exist.
As part of the project, two new towers are being added to Brickell City Centre, with another two already approved. Two entire blocks, including the former Tobacco Road block at 650 South Miami Avenue, and the Associated Photo property will be completely demolished.
The new towers will be 54 and 62 stories.
The 650 South Miami Avenue block is also planned to include three levels of air-conditioned retail space. Both of the new blocks will be connected by a pedestrian bridge.
