Miami insurgence of taquerias continues, with the latest newcomer, 222 Taco (1674 79th Street Causeway), debuting in North Beach late last week. The brainchild of Anna Robbins, who was one of the people behind the original Coyo Taco in Wynwood, it features an all-day, counter service menu will breakfast, lunch and dinner options.
The rather expansive food options include a variety of “classics” like tacos, quesadillas, and burritos filled with everything from pastor to shrimp; all-day breakfast with dishes like queens rancheros and Mexican French toast; family sized platters of tacos and nachos; “Cali-style” dishes such as Mexican burgers and carne asada fries; along with grab-and-go options and plateas and cookies for dessert. As for drinks, it features a full bar dubbed ‘La Margarita Shop.’ serving up margaritas of all types along with beer and wine; plus coffees, sodas and beers.
The 4,000-square-foot space, which feature colorful Oaxacan tile, Mexican embroidery, neon signage is intended to be a family-style eatery by day, and transitions into a late-night spot in the evenings, complete with music programming directed by Robbins.
The restaurant is now open Monday to Wednesday from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., Thursday and Friday until 2:22 a.m., Saturday 8 a.m. to 2:22 a.m. and Sunday 8 a.m. until 11 p.m.
