Starting today, you will be able to walk in a continuous path along the ocean from the southern tip of Miami Beach through South Beach, Mid-Beach and North Beach for the first time ever.
The next phase of the beachwalk project will see demolition of the wooden boardwalk from 24th to 45th street. Demolition will begin later this Fall with completion expected in 14 months.
A final section of beachwalk, from 79th street to 87th street, will begin construction in 2020, with completion in 2021. Around the same time, the re-designed Miami Beach Park and openspace is planned to re-open (as per the North Beach Economic Re-Development Program)
A pedestrian bridge on the west side of the city that runs above 5th street to a new park there is expected to be completed late this year or early next year.
Miami Beach will have 7.5 miles of Beachwalk plus another mile in Surfside and Bal Harbour. After the beachwalk is complete, Miami Beach will begin work on the Baywalk (along West Avenue and Bay Rd) from South of Fifth to Lincoln Road. This will total 10+ miles of continuous bicycle and walking paths
